Workation: Work From (Almost) Anywhere

How to swap your desk for a new view, without the stress

Workation: Work From (Almost) Anywhere

Working from the same desk, five days a week, isn't the only option anymore. At PRISMA, your workation can start wherever you want it to — a beach in Kenya, your childhood kitchen table, or somewhere you've never been before.

Two directions, both count

Working from abroad gives you something a regular vacation can't: real days, real routines, in a new place. New food, new language, new streets to explore on your lunch break — all while your work keeps moving.

Working from home (your home country, that is) means staying close to the people and places you'd otherwise only see once a year. No missed birthdays. No rushed video calls squeezed between meetings. Just an ordinary Tuesday, spent near the people who matter to you.

For our international PRISMAtes, this is where workation gets especially useful. Moved to Leipzig from somewhere else? You can combine a family visit back home with weeks of normal, productive work — no vacation days burned.

The practical upside

Beyond the personal side, remote work has real, measurable benefits: shorter commutes, more time for the things you care about, and often, better focus when you're back at your desk.

That's exactly what WorkFlex is built for.

Planning to work from somewhere else? Here's what to know:

  • Timing: Submit your request at least 2 weeks before you leave. Earlier is better.
  • Approval: Your Team Lead and the People & Culture team review each request, checking for business, legal, and tax considerations.
  • Duration: Once approved, you can work abroad for up to 182 days a year — within the EU or outside it.

A few things to keep in mind

It's not a business trip. Client visits are handled separately. On a workation, PRISMA doesn't cover flights or accommodation — this is your personal time, just spent elsewhere.

Requests can be declined. Business needs, visa requirements, or higher-risk destinations can all be reasons for a "not this time." Your safety and the team's needs come first.

You're covered. Every WorkFlex trip comes with automatic travel health insurance. Just let the WorkFlex team know if your plans change along the way.

Set yourself up properly. Wherever you land, take a moment to build a workspace that's actually comfortable and ergonomic. Your future self will thank you.

Health comes first. If your destination calls for vaccinations or a check-up, sort that out before you go.

Stay secure. Follow PRISMA's ISMS Framework and Privacy Policy, avoid public Wi-Fi without a VPN, and keep your laptop somewhere safe.

Bring your paperwork. Passport, employee instructions, and your employer statement — pack them like you would your passport itself.
